Hey guy's i have a 93 240sx that i have been slowly building as time and money allows. Im running a rebuilt KA with the cx racing t/3 t/4 kit. i changed out the auto trans for a 5 speed when i did the turbo kit and the car ran great. recently added some new parts and about a week later i noticed the starter was starting to turn over at like 50 % then it finaly went or so i thought... i'de tap it a bit with a wrench and it would start. so i replaced the starter to find out my battery was also dead. put in a new optima battery and i was working great for about 3 days and now it wont turn over.... i pulled out the volt meter and im getting 12.4 volts on the big starter wire but only 8.6 volts to the smaller wire when the key is forward. do i have another bad starter? is there a relay that could be bad? and shouldnt i be getting 12.4 volts on the smaller ignition wire when i attempt to start the car? any help would be greatly appreciated! Also im a noob and if im in the wrong forums a friendly nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as well!

very close to the problem im having. i keep hearing about a interlock relay that goes bad frequently and apparently because my car was automatic befor i did the 5 speed swap the relay is called a inhinibiter relay on the automatic. i have looked up the location wich is by the battery in the engine bay of the car but cant seem to find it. i have moved so many things around in the engine bay when installing the turbo kit that nothing seems to be where it's supose to lol. on the standard car the interlock relay is blue but apparently a diff color on the automatic so i guess i need to find a picture of the thing so i know what im looking for. thanks for your help. i'll post again when i finaly find and replace it.

ok so i think i have solved the problem..... bewildering as it is i think my new starter has kicked the bucket. i tried checking the voltage at the starter and the lower voltage on the relay wire had me concerned so i never actualy ran a hot line to the starter to test it. After doing so my starter still is not turning over.... problem solved. im gonna pop the starter out and put a new one in thats covered on the warranty and my problem should be fixed. will post the outcome.

Good to hear...
Hope it works out as you think...
I hate having starter problems... it really makes driving traumatic.

new starter is in and the car fired right up like normle. they tested the old/ new starter for me when i returned it for the warranty and it was bound up so they gave me a new one. guess next time i'll check the obvious even if the obvious is a brand new part recently replaced! thanks again for the input.
