Subject: Swapping JDM VG30DETT Auto into a USDM 300zx TT 5-speed.
Reason: USDM motor had very low oil pressure 10-15psi. It threw a rod out the block on a 20 degree ice cold day.

Donor: JDM VG30DETT purchased from JDM Engine Zone for $1165 shipped.

I will be posting updates on this build as I progress on the work.

JDM VG30DETT (This does not look like it has 60k miles) Looks a lot beat up.

Just an advice whoever picks up a JDM motor. Change all the rubber coolant and vacuum lines. You don't want to put the motor in the car and find out leaks.

Update on build: I am tearing down my motor to check low compression in cylinder 5 and also check all bearing clearances.

Update 2: Did a compression test on all cylinder with hand cranking and cylinder 5 shows 30psi. All other show 65-70 psi. I don't have the transmission out yet to mount to this JDM motor and do crank start so I get full compression test. I did this without oil in the motor so I don't know if that makes a difference but I couldn't understand why one cylinder would be this low.

So I called JDM Engine Zone and they would get back to me in a day or two to decide what they want to do. Either replace or give me credit for machine work. I am glad I am checking this now to avoid any horror later like other JDM motors.
