I just bought a 93 240SX Fastback for my son's first car. Front tires are currently 190/50-15 (Michelin with good tread)and rears are 190/60-15 (Cooper and worn out) on stock Nissan 240SX rims.

I looked at the 240 SX Tire FAQ area. I am considering buying a set of 225/50-15 tires for this 240SX.

Does anyone have experience with 225/50-15 tires on 93 240SX with stock mags?

Dies anyone have experience with Sumitomo HTR200 tires - they got get good reviews on Tire Rack.

Thanks in advance.

congrats on buying your son a good car!I would suggest running a 205-55-15 instead of a 225-50-15. the 225-50-15 is a little bit too wide for the stock rim width. you can wount it on the rim, but it wont fit very well(bulge).

sumitomos are like falkens, good for the money, not not "top of the class" in anything to speak of.-chet

Thanks for the input. Is there any value in running different size tires on the front versus the back on the stock mags on a 93 240SX?

Will a 205.50.15 fit stock teardrop wheels?

Yeah, 205/50/15 will be fine. You will just have to adjust for a little bit of a difference in your gear ratio. The car will accellerate a tad quicker, but your speedo will be a little off...

Example - at 100 MPH on the speedometer you will actually be going around 95

There are calculation tools all over the internet to figure it out exactly - the miata.net garage has a good one if you want to look into it.

I've been running various brands of 225/50(dunlop, sumitomo) with nothing but stellar results. Handling was much improved with little degradation in ride. Sears wouldn't mount them at first. The dunlop d-40's seemed to bulge from the rim the most, yet never experienced any type of failure. I am on my 2nd set of sumitomo's now, good for the price.
