I normally don't work on these type of cars. I am a Powerstroke Diesel guy.

But

I just acquired a 1993 Nissan 240SX and the timing chain is broke.

I haven't had the time to pull the cover and look at it all yet but did notice that the valve cover is cracked so that is why I believe the timing chain broke.

What all is involved with then happens? Does the valve line need to be reworked and replaced or is the motor junk?

Thanks,Trey

the ka series engines are an interference motor. pop the oil cap and rotate the crank with a wrench, if the cam spins your in, if it dosent you probably will have a bent valve or two. possibly worse.

I will take the valve cover off here in a few days when i have time. If the timing chain is for sure broke then my best bet is to pull the head and do a valve job correct?

The rest of the motor should be good then?

Just so you know it calls for 7.7 hours to change the timing chain. Almost every interfernce engine that I have seen that broke belt or chain ends up needing valve work.

In my opinion and this is only my opinion. Its easier and about the same price to swap in a used engine, only a bit more to swap in a reman engine.

Its also quicker since you know what your going to do, instead of a disassemble, send off to machine shop, wait for bad news, wait for them to repair what they have to fix, reassemble.

I would like to add i turned over both Cams slow and let them press down each valve and couple times and did it slow and it didnt feel like there was any resistance like there would be if there was a bent valve.

im sorry to see that. you cant really tell if your valves are bent unless you remove your cams at least. then you can mic the valve stems and see if thay are returning to closed, but really if thay are all bent you wont be able to tell until you remove the head or compression test. unfortunately tho anyone on here can tell you by that photo that you almost certanly have a bent valve.

So I should just start looking for a new motor

Anyone know where I can pick up a cheap used one?
