Hello,

I recently purchased a clutch kit off somebody here(smokey240sx). It was an exedy stage 1. I thought there was two different parts, but it turns out to be one in the same? I've always heard about pilot bearing needing to be replaced when doing a clutch job. So, when I bought this clutch kit all it came with was release bearing(or T/O bearing) and pilot bushing. I thought that I also needed a pilot bearing. So, I go ahead and order it from nissan. Then I get the darn thing.....and it looks exactly the same as that pilot bushing. My question is....are pilot bearing and bushing the same part? Is that nissans way of calling a pilot bearing? When I ordered it....I specifically said pilot bearing, but when the part came it said pilot bushing on the outside of bag.

pilot bushing is just a metal cylinder. Same thing you're looking at when you thought it says pilot bearing. The throw out bearing can rotate around if you hold it with your palms on the top and bottom and looks like a metal doughnut.

A bushing has no moving surface, a bearing has balls or rollers in it and will have an independant moving surface.

Your car DOES have both a pilot bushing and a pilot bearing. However the pilot bearing is inside the trans between the input shaft and mainshaft. It does not need to be replaced when doing a clutch job. The pilot bushing is located in the end of your engines crank shaft, when you install your trans the tip of the input shaft will go inside of it.
