I just replaced the starter on my KA, and now it seems to be working fine except that when the starter is cranking there is a whining sound. I am not sure what the deal is.

I alread posted this in the KA section, but I am coming up on me having to drive the car back to school so I would like to fix the problem before leaving if possible. Here is the link to the other post, sorry for any confusion. TIA!

Ya, that might be some important info, lol. Yes, it does start the car. Acts perfectly fine except for that whine.

Its likely the internal gears in the starter. The noise is probably actually the gears meshing improperly which will accelerate the wear on them. Did it have a life time gaurantee? If so I just say run it till it quits, It could go a year like that. You can just tell all your buddies it a turbo mod for your starter to make it turn the engine over faster..

That won't potentially damage the flywheel will it? If not, I have no problem because I do have the guarantee. I will listen more carefully, but I already think I heard the sound diminish a little. If the gears are meshing wrong do you think it was a defect in the starter or is something strange afoot? Thanks, your the best! (in a normal way )

Yea its probably just a crappy rebuild. Get them all the time from aftermarket sources. Thats why they offer the lifetime , it helps them sell over the dealer parts.
