I have had my 93 240sx for about a year now and have noticed something weird with my engine. It seems like when it hits 4000 rpm under full throttle it gives a noticable 'kick'. If you have ever taken a test drive in a new celica with the VVTL-I motor when it hits 6000 rpm the valves change and it get's a huge kick it is the same feeling. I can't figure out what it is. Has anyone ever had this problem? Or is the motor supposed to do this. I don't know much about the top end of the 240sx but do the have variable valves? All Help is appreciated.

No we don't have any kind of setup like the VVTLI or even the VVTL or even the VTEC. Current Nissans have the CVT.

The secondary butterflies only control intake swirl at idle. As soon as vacuum increases (under acceleration) the butterflies open to let all the air in. Thats why removing them doesnt do much at all. They help it use less gas while idling.
