hey whats up im new..well i dont know much about 240sx's so i came here hoping to find advice or such....my local salvation army car center sells cars they get from donation..they have a 1993 240sx for 500bux...but it does not start as i was told.i asked the guy what was wrong with it.he said hes not sure but he said he thinks that the engine has no compression at all...he said it cranks but does not start....i highly doubt he is right but if he is what can i do about this problem?.....i checked the car for rust..none..checked the oil..it was ok...the body is also perfect..it has 169,000 miles on the engine...i also tried to start it but it has been sitting there so long the battery died.lol..now if the engine has no compression at all, what to do about it?...if this is the problem is it worth buying the car for the 500dollar price?..

i would say buy it, you can get a new engine for not too much these days, and for just the car and all, it would make a great project. besides, im sure its somthing like the engine isnt getting fuel or somthing, could be as simple as a fuel pump fuse

Get a compression tester and bring a battery with you. A compression tester is a good thing to have, even if you do find out the engine is good or bad. If not I'm sure they would take 300 or so for the car.

Even with no engine, a good shell is worth the $500. An engine can be had for under $300. Buy it and have it towed home if you can't get it to start.

go to autozone and rent a tester. Get a battery from somewhere, and have fun.

Where is that? Maybe if they still have it, I'll go pick it up.

New here, and also oblivious to the world of cars. An engine can be had for under $300?

A used KA24DE engine is pretty cheap. Lots of people are busy ripping them out of cars to make room for shiny little SR20DET (the T is for turbo) engines.

Most folks don't want an engine taking up space in the garage, so they tend to sell 'em cheap.

Anyway, to the first guy...hell yeah, if the chassis is straight and free of rust I'd buy that sucker for $500. Put an SR in it, put a KA in it, do what you want.
