I have just aquired a 92 Q45 w/ 150k on it it has been sitting for about 2 years .. it fire right up but dose have a bit of oil smoke(blue) at the exaust. It never was there before sitting, i do know that the car was serviced regularly and the only reason i have aquried it was because the owner colud not bring him self to trade it in so he stored it for 2 years . I finally worked him over and its mine now i have looked over and read a ton of posts on nico in the last couple days nothing that really answered this ( not that i have given you much info ) i do know that all the recomended fixes have been done and it was serviced at t3 in ATL. Witch is where most of the trouble shooting was done. Car was a florida car but taken to t3 1-2 a year at least since 98 when the last owner had it. before that IDK.any ifo would be great , also the a/c compresor is frozen ( when you try the a/c) not a big deal being that winter will be here soon Look forward to really getting this car running good seems to have quite a following This is gonna be fun

The smoke could be from sitting. how long have you driven the car with it smoking? it could just have some deposits on the rings and just needs a good "italian tuneup" to clear things up. Id certainly try that first.

Have you changed EVERY FLUID in the car? 2 years of SITTING is hell on fluids, and all of those need to be changed before any appreciable driving is done.

Yeah if its been sitting for 2 years and you just cranked it up and it smoked a little, that does not concern me at all. Very little oil up in those parts of the motor.

Well after you change the fluids you can get the car hooked up to a consult, it will save you a TON of troubleshooting

A couple of things you can do quickly and for free before starting itOHM the FI with a voltmeter (Q45.org should be a site you visit pretty soon, it has some great writeups). While your at it do the KS (but they will not be the cause of the smoke regardless - just good to know if your going to be doing under plenum work on the car or not) unplug the MAF, clean the connectors (male and female) with some brake parts cleaner and a couple Q-tips. Then remove the MAF and spray it down with some electric parts or MAF cleaner (q45.org again, you need to be a little careful not to put too much force on the MAF, its sensitive, dont touch it with your fingers or anything)

Im not a mechanic by any means but I would think its running rich. Incorrect air readings (MAF) or injectors pouring in too much fuel (FI) are likely culprits

As for the transmission fluid, check it out make sure it looks good. I dont know what to suggest really, flushing it could kill the transmission if it isn't already dead. 2 years is a hell of a long time for it to sit there and gunk up. I wouldn't even recommend flushing a high millage transmission after 100k or so miles regardless of the transmissions condition, you could probably do a partial exchange by draining fluid and filling up but that will be anywhere from 20-60% fluid exchange (its VERY gentle compared to a flush, but you have to do it a couple times to really improve those fluids - not sure how easy it is to do on a Q, still has risks however)

BG44k will be something you might want a couple cans of, ebay is the best deals (its good to have anyways so 4 or 8 cans isn't a bad idea). Clean out the majority of crap in your fuel systems in just a tank or two

One last thing, maybe important. If the fuel did not have a fuel stabilizer added to it, its probably totally rubbish and will cause you a LOT of headaches and engine knock (some fuels store better, but almost never over 1 year). You might have to drain the tank somehow and then fill it up with premium (always premium on these cars). It is hard to test, maybe get a glass cup, if its dark, has a horribly strong/rancid smell, or has particles floating around its crap gas. I would guess its not that hard to siphon out but dont get it in your mouth, deteriorated gas is like a million times worse to taste

Good luck, its going to take some work restoring the car but thats what we are here for

Got the Q home tonight and off the trailer all fluids and what not will be changed and check tomm morning ......but i must confess altho i know better after puling the Q off the trailer i had to get it around the block and in the driveway. 2 year old gas , oil smoking and all the temptation was there and i gave in.... a quick hole shot to see what all this fuss is about..... any engine that car ROAR like that after sitting for 2 years ... is something that i can get into... i will update on my findings and probally will be in need of some guidence tommrow until then i will be dreaming of what kind of treasure i just might have fallen onto with this new beast out in the driveway.

yea anybody would be guilty of the same . It has power, add in a NICO ecu and just about everything you decide to take on will be destroyed on the highway (and many city). However its so heavy its a little slow to get going

Good luck, please do stick around. Always good to have the family growing, it will be frustrating getting the Q running like new but when it does you might have a few friends gawking at the car

Ok so the fluids are new eveything seems to check out i have to find out who will have consult in my area will it be just a nissan dealer or will i need to find a infiniti dealer ???? and 2nd This may sound really dumb but after everything has been changed the smoke is 1/2 of what it was and is not rich t seems to be some stinky steam.... i know all mufflers have condensation in them im just wondering how much the Q's muffler can hold its nearly the biggest muffler ive ever seen .... looks to me that it could hold a ton of water and does any one else think that it could be water even after sitting for so long????

If it were me, now that the fluids are all fresh, I'd take it out on the open road and run it awhile. Give it some WOT runs, etc - Italian tuneup!.

A good half hour at speed should help rid anything that might remain in the exhaust lines.

Does it idle smoothly? No coughs?

Injectors should be fine, then. You should stop by an auto store and pick up some MAF cleaner, or electrical parts cleaner, and give your MAF element a cleaning. After sitting that long, it probably has some contaminants on it.

And ... NO ethanol for this beastie - it eats Q45 injectors and hoses. Go out of your way to find a station you're sure of. Chevron and Shell are usually recommended - 92-93 octane.
