after getting fuel pump replaced, i asked this local mechanic to give back the original, but he gave me the cylinder part only without the full assembly. he said that he used the assembly was used with new pump. is this normal?

after this, i put the pump in the trunk went for a drive, check engine light came on again, took it back.

2 hours later, he calls and sez ecu is jacked up. and showed me the ecu code of 51 and 45, which is injector related. one of the injector was not getting the spark to the injector as he showed me the little test with a bulb. AND my fuel pump was gone which i put in the trunk!!!

pissed off, i told him not to work on it, i wiggled the maf connector, started, the light went off.

question, legally, he has to give the original part right? he sez he removed the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump, but i got a feeling it was something else entirely. gut feeling.

thinking about taking it somewhere else to see if he even replaced the pump, although car starts right up now which was the initial problem.

any thoughts on this?

Can you hear the pump like before? If you can, then same pump most likely! You should not be able to hear the pump from inside the cabin.

A fuel pump replacement is just the pump and pickup screen only, if I remember correctly. I reused the original assembly too. The only parts actually replaced were the tank o-ring, the pump, the 3-inch piece of rubber hose below it, and the pickup screen. Everything else is original -- the new parts get bolted back onto the old carrier with the float gauge, etc.

The injector failure may be the result of your now factory-spec fuel pressure. It was probably limping along on lower pressure for quite a while. BTW, the injector timing is so brief I seriously doubt it would light a "bulb" at all. Do an OHM test instead.

Is your gas gauge reading correctly? gauge malfunction is a sure sign of a botched job by a careless mechanic.

Azsky is right, only the fuel pump, 6" of rubber hose and the pick-up screen is replaced; everything else is reused. Regardless of this you should get your old parts back (this may vary from state to state).

The fuel injector problem is most likely the result of the fuel pump working correctly now as Azsky said. But further investigation into the injectors is not a bad idea.

For someone who has no knowledge of the Q and does not have a factory service manual, tank removal to replace the pump may seem the only way to do it.

Good luck and keep us posted.
