Anybody got a pair of these for sale? They are usually all over EBay, but nothing for a few weeks. I'm on my second set (off Ebay) one of which is now bad. I just priced new from Joe today, would you believe over $400 each or $200 ea to repair?! And that's the NICO deal, I can't imagine what civilians have to pay!Alternatively, does anyone know of anyone repairing these reasonably? Joe explained that he sends them out so the price is kinda beyond his control. There used to be a guy on ebay all the time with a $49 repair if you send yours in. Not there now. And finally does anyone know of an aftermarket product that will replace them? And the amp in the speaker is gone if anyone was wondering what the problem is.

I think Nick has a set, not sure if they're for sale.

He's at [email protected].

Are the speakers blown (scratchy bass) or is the amp just bad and making popping and hissing noises?

Honda Accord SEs, Acura NSXs, a bunch of Cadillacs, Mazdas, and Nissans all use the same amp. I went to a junkyard and got a driver's side amp from a Maxima, with a six month guarantee.

I ended up returning the one from the Maxima (failed after 3 weeks) and got one out of a 95 Mazda Milennia. The amp from the Mazda seemed to have some kind of protective coating (in addition to the usual thick goo that goes on it) to prevent moisture from causing interference I suppose.

Its been in my car for a year and has worked flawlessly ever since.

Pretty good for $36.

the amplifiers are car model specific,as they are equalized{tuned} to each individual model of car interior,so while others may fit,you will lose all the fine tuning that makes the bose system tailored for the q.

I have the same speaker problems on my front pairs. It's the combination of blown speakers (scratchy bass) and defective amps (w/ annoying high-pitch hissing noises). Would love to know what you are able to find. Personally, I'd like to stay with OEM parts to maintain Bose's optimum engineering quality.

Do you need speakers or amps...

I have extra speakers.....but I am reluctant to give up the amps...

I have three amps for spares.....

Also....the wiring harness might be slightly different for the 92 than my 94s..... I also know that you can splice the wires and make them work with no problems...

I would sell the speakers fairly cheap to a NICO member.... however, the speakers don't usually fail....

i replaced my stereo over the winter and have fronts and rears sitting around, the only thing is, i can't completely vouch for their condition. i seem to remember that the rears were giving me some grief, don't recall the fronts, but can't be sure. short of reinstalling them, which would be a pain in the *** and i don't plan to do it, anybody got any tips for figuring out if the amps are o.k.? the speakers look in fine shape and i'd be willing to part with them--just sitting around taking up space.

In an ideal world, where I'd have a lot of expendable cash, I'd gut the P.O.S. Bose and throw in a Nakamichi deck and some MB Quart speakers.

Bose is an overhyped name affixed to run-of-the-mill crap. I've never seen an OEM sound system with as many stupid, costly problems as Bose.

I suggest against investing anymore money into repairing/replacing your Bose system unless you value the OEM look.

I don't think the amps are tuned for each car model as previously suggested. What Bose does do well is enclosures. Bose takes quite cheaply made speakers and puts them in a ported enclosure that's appropriately sized with a port that's the correct length to compliment it. Most car speakers are free air, not good for making good sound. The front Q boxes will hold a 5.25" speaker if you enlarge the hole. If it were me, I'd use Infinity Kappa Perfect 5.25" components in front with a decent small aftermarket amp and Cadence Ultra Drive 6X9s in the rear deck with a 300-400W rms amp. For a head unit I'd use a cheapy Pioneer, Kenwood, Clarion... they do a pretty good job and don't cost a fortune like Nakamichi.

Do yourself a favor and sell the working Bose for parts. You are at that point where "resistance is futile". Why anyone would want to replace 4" paper cone speakers is beyond me. Time to go aftermarket and get something that sounds really nice. My 4-6x9's and a good Kenwood HU were less than $300 when you do the shopping. Only hard part was running new wiring in the doors. The difference in sound quality isn't even close.
