My 92 is purring towards its 120K service. I am taking her to Jerry Tucker for a going-over.

Significant history is as follows:

replacement of chain guides about 92Kreplace all fuel injectors about 85-90K (changed out fan, fuel pump, water pump, etc.)replace transmission at 80K and 95K (added cooler after the first)replace shocks in the past 15Kreplaced all high pressure fuel lines after smelled raw gasreplaced all hoses that were easily changablereplaced drive shaft assemblyreplace rack and pinionall services

At this 120K service I plan on having the fuel pump replaced, although I don't hear any whining.

What preventative changeouts should I consider on a '92 of this age?

Thanks,Ken K

Sounds very well-maintained.

I'd have them look closely at suspension bushings, esp tension rods and upper links... Flush brake fluid and PS fluid, coolant flush.

With that level of maintenance, you're golden unless things beyond your control start breaking.

Your response raises the question about the radiator. When does that tend to die? If it does, is it usually repairable like most others or does it need to be replaced?

I think the fluids will be taken care of in the 120K service, but I had already had them on the list, as well as a rebuild of the brake master cylinder. I have been leaking a smidge of fluid from the brake system over the past 10K miles and it appears to come from there.

When does the compressor for the AC tend to go? How about the AC control unit? (I already had Jerry do his magic to restore the LED readout on mine about 25K miles ago)

The radiator life varies so much due to differing maintenance habits. In another thread Dennis mentioned that most six years or older probably don't work as-new. I doubt I would replace it unless there's some evidence that it's a problem though. It looks like you've taken care of most of the major stuff. I would go ahead and replace the master cylinder if it has started to leak - otherwise, just flush all of the fluids and enjoy the car knowing that it's in better shape than 95% of it's cousins on the road.

The A/C controller should be fine... the only common issue is the display one that you have already addressed. Compressor life varies a lot... I would say 100K average? Hard to say. Not something I would replace until it gets noisy enough to indicate it's on the way out...

Thanks. I did not realize that the compressor would tip off its impending death with noise.

A high low side and low high side can help tell you when your compressor is going bad....

I woudlnt bother replacing the pump if its not making noise.

I would too start thinking about suspension.

my experience with the Q compressor is that at 186,000 miles it is still quiet, but cooling power at idle is nowhere as good as it should be,fine once engine speed increases-also takes too long to initially pull down temp after being parked in the sun-compressor losing efficiency as it ages, yet still ok while at mid to high speed driving.system was vacuumed/refilled for the first time at around 9 years old and was only down about 5 ounces of freon..........

I have replaced the shocks all around (OEM, not Tokico. I didn't know about them) What other components should be checked?

when you talk about suspension stuff thats rubber, replacement is the better term than inspecting.

Tension rod bushings, upper links, sway bar bushings, i assume you replaced strut mounts and spring dust boots when you replaced the tokicos.

I see references to the CAS and knock sensors frequently here. Are those parts that go bad and are worth changing preventatively?

1.) Be aware there is a sacrifical anode bewtween the radiator and the block. Good idea to replace and inspect for corrosion to get an idea of past coolant condition and performance.

2.) Must mechanically exchange ATF, including pan drop. If using M1 synthetic, use 6 oz. of Lube Guard Red. Exchange your PS fluid also.

3.) Think about evacuatiig AC and replacing drier. When it makes noise, it is replacement time.

Seldom done, but it is critical to clean the fins of radiator, ATF cooler and condenser and the area trapped between them. Same for opening where air is pulled through the alternator. Use compressed air. Check your sunroof and evaporator closet drains. Lube hood hinges and clean and lube sunroof rack, door hinges.

KS and its harness is done when the under plenum hose job is done.

Check your brake lines. Even Q45tech got stung by a burst one. Might want to switch them out. There are posts here, and Heath knows a good fabricating outfit whoom I cannot recall.
