Car runs amazing, idles fine and revs good in neutral. When I put it in gear it cannot accelerate like it should. Up to 2k or 2.5k it is mostly normal but after that there's no torque, and going up any hill is tedious. When I come to a stop and simply brake, the car idles down and dies, however if I give it some gas before it gets to about 1k it will stay idle.

It has new plugs, injectors, wires etc... I am curious if these are two connected occurrences and what may be done to solve them. Thanks

no tourque after a certain rpm sounds like a timming issue make sure your distributor is in the correct spot.

it had a bent idler valve which was replaced and since then the only way it gets close to the correct timing is cranking the distributor as far right as possible.. if this is related i will pursue that further. any ideas on what would cause that?

that was the same problem i had on mine the owner before me put a new head on it and the timming chain was off by one link (retarted) so i had to turn the distributor all the way to the right (advanced) to try and compensate for it

Is this a 5speed or auto? If an auto, sounds like the torque converter

OK I am leaning towards timing, which brings up the question of why my timing is needing to be so advanced to idle at all?

Have you checked the brake booster?

I had similar symptoms on my hatch, caused by the brake booster line popping off, or a leak in the system.

turn the crank by hand 4 times cause its a 4 stroke motor then with cylindner 1 cam lobes are facing away from each other on tdc make sure timing marks are lined up then take out dizzy and make sure the little dot on the end is lined up with the open spot that doesnt move on the dizzy shaft. with the valve cover off and timing cover on take light and make sure the dot and open spot are lined up turn dizzt till they are then use timing light to get it just right on 20degrees btdc
