92 Stanza : MT wont go into reverse

hey all, I have a 1992 nissan stanza that will not go into reverse. it will go into all other 5 gears just fine. It is a litttle louder than usual for a manual transmission, but I do not suspect anything major is wrong, as I am still getting about 33mpg on the highway and 25 around town.

The previous owner replaced the clutch and 48 miles later, it stopped going into reverse. so, he sold it to me for extremely cheap!

is there anything he could have done to screw it up? are there any external adjustments on the transmission like shift fork stoppers or someething that are adjustible? any help is greatly appreaciated.

Will the shifter go into the reverse position and the car just doesnt move or does it grind when you try to put it in reverse?

time to get a new transmission... if it was the clutch all gears would be messed up... its a secranizer (spelling??) lol

Reverse doesnt use a syncronizer. I am wondering if it might be the shift linkage under the car.

if you find out its in the transmission, never fear! reverse is the easiest gear to fix. its all the way on the end of the clusters and has no synchro(as nistech mentioned). i have one just like yours(from a max) with no reverse that im going to fix and sell.

mm i thought R had a synchro-- i'm not an expert on trannys lol- but everytime my bf puts his car in reverse and it grinds he's says hes gotta replace the synchro... mmm haha i get to call him out about that when i get home!! lol!! thanks for the CORRECTION
