Hey! Hope I am welcome as a newbie.
I need some guidance, the "meter" fuse (interior, by drivers door) on my 92 Sentra S 5 speed manual (1.6 liter) keeps blowing at random intervals. It'll blow the biggest fuse I put in there (I know, not safe, I was troubleshooting) but it's always random. I can't seem to reproduce it on my own terms but it appears to do it at least most of the time during start-up, but like I said, only sometimes. I don't even know where to start looking for the short (assuming that's what it probably is).
A couple questions...
1. What systems do that fuse affect? I know it controls my gauge cluster and I read somewhere the reverse lights but I don't know if that is accurate.
2. My battery drained while driving one time while the fuse was blown. It doesn't seem to do it if I keep up on replacing the fuse but I cannot be sure the battery charging system is affected (effected?) by that "meter" fuse being blown. Is my assumption correct?
3. Would any part of switching on ACC or starting possibly impact just the meter fuse?
A few complications I may have created myself...
- I installed a cutoff switch for the stereo. It was not installed very well by previous owner, rather than rewiring it I decided to install a cut-off switch for it. It drains battery even when everything is completely off without the cut-off switch off.
- I also installed a cutt-off switch for the ignition.
- I installed a push button switch to engage the starter.
I do want to note that although I am not an electrician, I did a decent job wiring the switches, all contacts and wire splices are done with appropriate connectors and covered in shrink wrap to seal it off. I did my best to make sure there couldn't be a short if the wires were to touch anything. I used a little bigger gauge wire for all the switching to accommodate power.
Any help would be appreciated! Even some diagrams from a Haynes manual or something would be great. I am afraid I don't have one and I am not able to purchase one. Thanks in advance!
