I just recently picked up a 92 S13 that smokes a bit coming off idle. It has 196k on it, but still runs very strong. If I let it idle for awhile, then step on the pedal briefly, it lets out a decent blueish cloud. I did an oil change after I got it and there was a strong fuel smell in with the oil. After running new oil in it for a little over a week, the smell is starting to come back to the oil. My fear is that the fuel/oil mixture will get bad enough to affect oil viscosity and possibly spin a bearing.
My idea is one of the following:
1. A bad ring causing oil to blow-by, mix with fuel, and leak back down
2. Bad valve/valve guide
3. Bad O2/Coolant Temp/Mass Air sensor, causing an over-rich condition
I popped the valve cover off and couldn't find any differences in the areas around the valves as far as fuel scent or visual differences. When I pulled the plugs, they didn't have any oil buildup on any of the tips.
I'm trying to get it in a somewhat reliable running order, so I can take a 1000 mile road trip here next week, and make it back on time.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
