I own a 1992 Q45a that I simply love. I purchased it at an auction for $4700. I bought it with 78,000 miles on it and it now has 97,000. Although it has cost some money to get it into the shape it is now, it is truly an awesome machine. Besides all of the minor things that I have had fixed, I have had the following major projects completed:

Replaced the Chain GuidesReplaced 6 of the 8 Injectors (2 went bad and then 4 others about 6 months later)Replaced the Steering Wheel Control Unit (steering wheel tightened up)

The other things that I have been told by the dealership that need to be done are the following:

Turbine Sensor (Major labor cost, although there does not seem to be any loss of transmission fluid)Valve Covers (Do I just need gaskets or the actual covers)Red light for active suspension comes on intermittently, but the dealership says that it is not a problem. What should I do and is there damage being done by nor fixing it?It also needs a paint job (first owner did not wax often or at all)

I am also wondering about the transmission and what needs to be done in order to maximize the life.

I would appreciate any advice from some of you dedicated "Q' owners about what should be done next.

In closing I appreciate all of the hard work that all of you have put into this website, forums, etc. I have really learned a lot about my car from each of you.

I anticipate replies.

Replies you shall recieve my good sir!!!!!

Welcome to NICO first off......

Turbine sensor: im pretty sure the transmission has to be lowered, you MAY be able to keep the driveshaft on or maybe just take it off the tailshaft or something..... I know its not as much labor as physically removing the transmission but dont knwo for sure whats involved...

Valve covers: They use liquid gasket (the 94s had a rubber gasket)..... You must take it off and scrub the crap out of it, then put the gasket in the crevace......

Active suspension.... You need to look into a fluid exchange and replace your accumulators at this mileage......

transmission.. You need to have a transmission flush done, and best to have a pan drop with clean and filter exchange... Its been debatable what the order to do it is, but IMO as long as it gets done it doesnt really matter..... You also need to add an external transmission cooler......

For all the terms your not familiar with, you need to read the previous posts, especially by Q45tech... Get you a sandwich and read all the threads in the online mechanic.....

Also, look at our INFINITI ARTICLES section and http://www.q45.org

But most importantly, can we see some body and interior photos? :)

Welcome to our little club!..:jazz:

The school of thought that most here now subscribe to, for transmission flushe,s is to do the pan drop/ clean and filter replacement first, so as to avoid pushing gunk thru the transmission.

transmission cooler, with by passing the factory rad heat exchanger entirely, that way you avoid one of the most common causes of ATF starvation in your transmission ( clogged stock heat exchanger in Radiator) in addtion to keeping it cool.

Congrats on your completed projects!!!!

As for the active warning light, it is doubtful you will damage anything that doesnt need help to begin with ( unless your fluid leel is low) so drive on as long as the ride isnt too stiff for you at this point.NICO member Texasoil is the Q45a Guru here ( as is Q45tech) and I am sure one fo them will see this thread soon for further sage advice.

Enjoy our club!

check to see how much suspension travel you have with car running. Bounce hard on each corner-should be 5" +/-. Less means accumulators are low. No movement except rubber bounce is flat accums and can/will lead to damage to all the rubber and steel parts if driven on rough roads, high speed, etc. The suspension system has no give with flat accumulators --just tires and things bending to absorbe the shock. not good.

Hopefully that check will come out fine.It doesnt sound like he has any ride problems.

If the ride is semi good doesnt it take years before it gets real bad?

Useful life of the accumulators before recharge needed varies with road conditions and temperature.
