Hi.

I have decided to replace the timng chain guides, as my Q has 85K miles and I intend to keep it.

At the time of the work, what else is worth changing to keep from having to do in the next 50K? Does the water pump usually give out about now? Anything else "while we are there" worth replacing or considering? (I will probably replace the timing chains, as they don't appear to be that expensive when compared to the labor getting to them...!)

Thanks,Ken K

Water pump isn't a bad idea, but it's also not too hard to do on its own. After you do the chains/guides, most other jobs will seem a lot easier.

Front main seal should be changed every time the cover comes off, how are all belts, and idler pullies, 3 rad hoses, etc..........good time to wash radiator of external debris and pressure air clean the condenser.

Daedalus and Q45tech, thanks for the additional input.

I will be having the work done by a local mechanic of good repute, so I will ask him to check all of these items and replace them.

I usually subscribe to the theory that if it ain't broke, don't fix it, except when it is something that travels at high speed and might break down far from home....

Any other items I might consider at the same time?

ThanksKen K

They are already on the list. (I found a list on the infinity club website, I think,) and worked it through with Daedulus. (I will track down the thread but it is in the general Infiniti forum.)

I have thought about it and think that as as long as we willl be tearing off the front of the engine, we may as well replace any thing that can stretch or break.

If there was some other vehicle that I thought drove as well for a reasonable price, I would probably not do this, but I love driving this car so much that I expect to keep it for at least a few years more.

I live in Fresno, CA.

Cheers,Ken K
