My first suggestion would be to run either a can of BG44K or the ~$10 (At Autozone) Valvoline gas treatment, and see if that cleans things up.

Other than that we'll need a lot more maintenance/mechanical history on the car itself.

Not that it will help you pass the emission test, but you should read the Infiniti Articles on the timing chain guides.

If you haven't corrected those, the emission test may be the least of your worries shortly.

Bingo... its the EGR system causing the high NOx cotent. If you havent already - you'll most likely plug up the EGR tubes if left untreated. MIL will follow shortly. I've been there.

B&G sells a EGR system cleaning solution - different from the BG44k. Look into it - if you need a quick solution.

But proper solution is to clean the EGR and TB.

Thanks for the help... I believe the EGR valve was the problem,, but can't guarantee... what I did was :with 1/4 tank of Sunoco ,, I added two bottles of HEAT drygas treatment. I pulled off the vaccum hose and poured 1/2 can of SEAFOAM slowly,, while engine was running, I then dumped in the rest of the can fast and stalled the engine. Waited 1/2hr. and reconnected hose. I started engine and layed biggest blue cloud you have ever seen behind me as I drove down the street..Drove the car 1/2 a day and went for e check...it passed by 200 points better in NO2 test...,,, pt

Many times the EGR carbon will solidify so much that you have to use giant drill bits to dig it out, then the solvents.

All makes, all brands - egr blockage [somewhere] results in NO test failure.
