How do I get to the MAF on a '92 Q45 to check the connections? Wiggling connections sounds simple enough for even me to do.... Relatively detailed instructions would be appreciated. (I can open the hood and find the air filter for starters and I can recognize a wrench from a screwdriver at 20 paces... I just don't know much about the innards of newer vehicles since I stopped working on my BMW 528e)

ThanksKen K

It's the 3 inch square part attached to the air cleaner housing, with the wires going to it, between the air cleaner & big duct to the throttle body. Can't miss it.

Well, I was afraid of that; it was staring me in the face when I opened the hood. I have been having trouble with missing and it was suggested that I try the connections on the MAF. So I wiggled and pulled,e tc, without any luck. I will have to look deeper....

Thanks,Ken K

Missing is more like an Injector , Plug or Coil. Get a Tech to check it out.I'm leaning towards an injector. Keep us posted.

i agree with chally, if it's "missing" , usually not associated with the MAF. mine was acting up a month ago, took the connector off the MAF, delicately! filed the pins to get them shiny again, used some bulb grease then made sure the connection was put on tight. the unstable idle was gone. very easy to do and should take you 5 minutes so you can rule out the MAF if it's not that.

Tell me: if one injector, or coil, or plug is failing, is it worth changing them all? Or is it unlikely that more will fail? (The plugs were changed at 60K miles at the dealership)

I had 1 injector fail a year ago, & I only replaced that one & all are still going great. There is no reason why & when they fail, apart from bad fuel, but you can never tell when they will ultimately fail.

Plugs? change the lot. It's too hard to get to them & changing only 1 would be unwise.

Coil? replace only the one that's broken.

I have a 91 Q45 that started to miss intermittently, then it progressed to a non stop miss. My guys told me nissan injectors are notorious (as opposed to toyota who gets theirs from a different company). I had the injectors tested and sure enough one injector was over 50 ohms and two were close to 20. The rest were around 10. I had the three relaced for a g note. The problem is it's expensive enough just to take the manifold apart to get at the injectors. The injectors are well over a hundred bucks a piece, but the labor taking the manifold off is what kills you. Make sure you test them all and if they test high...you make the call, but you definitely don't want to come back a year later and have another one replaced. Good luck

Clayyy, one thing you don't want to forget, just because an injector has the correct ohm reading, doesn't mean that the injector is ok. Just because everything shows fine electrically, doesn't mean that everything is ok mechanically. You can have an injector ohm reading within specifications, but the injector be faulty due to the mechanical part of the injector be sticking open, closed, or a fault in the spray pattern. Just a thought to consider!
