92 Q45 Dying problem

I bought this q45 with 140k on the clock about a month ago and lately it has had a slight dying problem. It used to only happen sometimes when idling but tonight when I went to get in it , it started then died and did this until I revved high and really gave it hell. I have tried injector cleaner in it, that doesnt really seem to help though. Are there any known symptoms? Also the fuel gauge doesn't work it says half tank all the time. I have been keeping the tank pretty close to full though to not ruin the injectors.

Also, sometimes I have noticed a fuel smell in the car and very strong around the car.

Do you hear a humming from the rear of the car??? could be fuel pump... if the fuel pump is newish (IE been replaced sometime within 40k miles), then id start by checking the MAF/connector.
