My 92 Q45 is having the drive shaft vibration at the 20 mph and above mark. Had the transmission rebuilt and the mechanic suggested replacing the carrier bearing ASAP. The vibration is so bad I am scared to drive it another mile. I am on unemployment guys and need this car driving can anyone tell me what year shafts are interchangable with the 92? Or can anyone tell me how hard it is to change the center bearing? Do I need special tool,etc... Salvage yard driveshaft with bearing and all-$100New carrier bearing -about $150 ps. I have been in and out of the other post on here and i am still confused. Plz damsel in distress

I think if you read the posts you will discover that the driveshaft has been updated to the later configuration. Call the crew at IoS http://www.infinitipartsusa.com for an exact answer.

Avoid buying used as you are just buying someone else's problem. The repeat labor will not help you. No offense, but you might consider alternative transportation as an imported luxury V8 is not an inexpensive proposition to keep running.

If you have TCS* or Active Suspension? then you need a drive shaft from one of those cars.

Your better off going to a junk yard and pulling the drive shaft of a car with the lowest miles then just buy the carrier bearing. But there is no escaping the fact that you will have to re-balance the drive shaft if you want it to last for some time.

~$100 for the drive shaft$121 for the new carrier bearing kitPlus labor and re-balancing

If you do decide to buy a new one you may have to re-balance the shaft because during transportation it tends to get thrown around a lot causing the inner foam to be out of balance.

$682 plus shipping for the new propeller shaft.Plus balancing and labor.

If you need proof of this or need any more help see the link in my signature.

The problem is, once the inner foam in the driveshaft is loose, the shaft cannot be rebalanced as the foam is continously shifting.

I'm not sure when the updated design came from the factory... the original bearing was smaller than the updated design. If you're upgrading from one design to the other, you'll need new bracets as well.

junk the car and start with something newer and more economical- a 18 year old multiple owner used lux car is a financial disaster to own if not over-maintained since day one.

Not sure what over maintained means, but if you want to keep it near new performance and operation [little or no vibrations], you get to replace everything more than once.

The perfectionist I am has resulted in 2 brand new drive shafts and center carrier mounts in only 20 years .The oem lasted 7 years and replacement lasted 10 years.

Thanks fella's for the advice. The car was bought as a spare and something to just play around with. Paid $950 for it 2 years ago with 120,000 miles no dents and mildly worn interior, garage kept single owner. Thought that was a great deal! Then the truck i drove daily DIED so that left me with the car. Which has been a good car. Replaced fuel pump and filter, MAF, transmission, antenna, window control motor, oil change, new plugs, wipers. Car is actually in fairly good condition considering the age. If I was working I could afford to buy a shaft from a shop but that just isnt a option at this time. Think im gonna settle for the junk yard shaft. I was just hoping to avoid the car being down for too long for trying to get the RIGHT driveshaft. was just looking to find the years that are interchangable like maybe 91-96 I think. So what I take from yalls post is....If i go with a newer shaft say from a 94 I need the brackets cause the bearing is bigger? Correct? But can i assume the shafts are the same lenght and everythig else will bolt up with ease?

let me add, my shaft in the car is still good, the bearing is just shot. Paul with what you suggested should I just get the bearing. And do i need special tools to pull the old one and apply the new one in its brackets or is it as simple as just pulling it down and swapping it out? Sorry about the confusion here.

Do you have TCS or Active Suspension?

The center bearing is not replaceable as as far as I know and you can't even order it from the dealer trust me it says so in Nissan FAST (Dealer parts software).

So your options are to buy one from a junkyard, 1990-1996 will fit if the car doesn't have TCS or Active suspension. Or 1991-1995 will fit if you have Active Suspension. Make sure YOU look at the odometer on the car and NOT trust what the guy says when he hands you the part. In other words pull it off your self or ask to see the car it came from.

1994-1996 Q45 drive shafts had a replaceable center bearing as I said previously. But like Q45tech said after 120K MAX you have to replace the drive shaft or replace the center bearing on 1994-1996 Q45 drive shafts ONLY.

Best thing to do would be to follow those above options and previous post in this topic. Or find a Q45 similar to yours that is being sold for very cheap and part it out yourself. Keep ALL the electronics and anything else you think you will need and sell all the stuff that doesn't fir your car or you don't think you will need.

I think Q45tech said this: "The part that needs replacing is the part you don't have with you" Not an exact quote... He was referring to his trunk where he carries a spare Q45 in there.

Paul... do you have a part number for the center carrier bearing that's available separately? I wasn't aware it was available...

As far as I know the 90-96 G50 all share the same basic driveshaft, with an update to the center carrier bearing maybe with the 1994 revision? Any owner should check to see if the drive shaft has been previously updated before replacing it - since that will determine if a new mounting bracket will be needed.

I have the best news ever for 1993 Q45 owners!!! We can replace our center drive shaft bearing!!!

I thought it sucked to have a 1993 because we owned a bastard child Q45 but this somewhat makes up for it.

For years: 0692-0296 here is the part number: 37521-66U25-

The above number is for both TCS/Active Suspension cars and Base/Touring models.

So for anyone else out there go find a 1993-1996 Q45 and pull the drive shaft off.

Still can't escape the fact that the drive shaft has foam and that gets out of balance causing other problems down the road.

For 1990-1992 Q45 owners I am sorry: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh...tlink

Good luck. I've never seen a sucessful junkyard swap that is anywhere near oem new vibration.

I've been luckily and only had to buy one brand new one and got one 3k new used one from a wreck.

Many times you buy an entire wreck just for ONE PART.

Thanks Paul, you have been a big help and a special thanks for the shaft illustration. I will probably be selling the car this summer so whoever buys it can worry about the new vibration. i just need to get to work for now. Junk yard shaft it is!As for ordering the carrier bearing, here in Memphis , Tn. the Infiniti dealer will sell the bearing but they want $200. I have found them on the internet for around $150 with shipping. Anyway, off to the jusk yard, Thanks everyone!
