Sup all long time...anyway I wanted to know how much the repair is and how much the chain guide it self cost. And where can I get it done like the infiniti dealer or is it something I can do it by myself so if someone can let me know that would be tight thanx.

Per 96 Q owner, read all the links and get your parts from Joe at Scottsdale. I ordered them from him and had them shipped to Canada and saved $300 over the dealer price here locally even with shipping and exchange rates. (Also the dealer here had no idea what I was talking about.)

I just finished the guide replacement. I have average to above average home garage skill and a reasonably equipped toolbox (no air tools). It took me 10 hours from start to finish. If you are going to DIY, get a piece of cardboard, draw a rough sketch of the front of the engine, and then as you remove bolts, poke a hole in the cardboard drawing where the bolt came from and put the bolt in the hole. This procedure always saves alot of time and frustration on reassembly. It wasnt a super hard job and if you follow the instructions in the links posted and give yourself some time to do it you should be fine. Shops here were quoting 1500 - 2000 for the job.

PS. my car has 90,000 miles (1991), was well cared for, and showed no indication of anything being wrong. When I opened up the front cover, the drivers side tension side tensioner fell out in pieces. So yes it should be done.

Thanx all. Good info I wounder if there is anyone on here with a Q45 that has more miles on there car than me I have about 150-160k on it. I wounder if thats bad? Should I just get a new engine, or should I just get the chain guide fixed and just keep driving? What do you guys think? I saw a motor on ebay for like $700 and shiping was like $300 so total was like no more $1,000 I dont know let me know what you guys think K?

Heck, I BOUGHT mine with 147K on it, now 186K.

Many NICO members have over 200K. The engine (provided it's had fluid changes at proper intervals) is VERY strong. It'll still be less money to fix the chain guides than to swap in a used engine. It all depends on the confidance you have in your present engine's maintenance vs. a used one.

Besides ... the only easy swap is another 90-93 and those chain guides will need to be replaced too! The 94-95s with the updated guides won't swap in without some tricky harness splicing, as well as parts swapping between the two versions.

Fix the one you have and keep driving it.

As for "how long will chain guides last", we've seen/heard of them going close to 200k, but also heard of them breaking apart and killing the engine . In short it's not worth the risk.
