While driving home from work yesterday, I found that the brake pedal slowly went to the floor after several stops/starts. Scared the heck outta me! I still had stopping...well, slowing power and managed to get home. After letting it cool down, I started it again and at first the brakes felt fine until I mashed on em pretty good. Then they go to the floor.

I checked everything out...plenty of fluid and new pads. Oh yeah, and no dash warning lights came on. My first guess is the Master Cylinder. I did some reading in the service manual to make sure. It doesn't have any troubleshooting/symptoms concerning the master cylinder, just the power assist. I know it's a simple question but, which should i attack first? Master Cylinder? or Power Assist?

Thanks, Robert

Robert, good to see you back! Just had another member whose car threw a rod during another driver's excurson to whom he lent it out. Wondered if you were able to get any restitution?

I would have to say it is without a doubt the master cylinder, but that's only my opinion.

Master cylinder. Power assist problem would not cause low pedal, just high effort.

Good to be back... It's been quite a while. I never got anywhere with that Goodyear place. I just didn't have the time to deal with them. They'll get what is comming to them some day. Working for the PD, I get around and always tell folks about my problems with these idiots. I just feel that it's necessary to spread the word about them. It will be more damaging anyway... plus it makes me feel a little better ;) Avoid TWO FAT GUYS - GOODYEAR if anyone is in the San Antonio / Boerne area. They blew my Q engine and wouldn't pay for it! haha...Life has kept me busy enough. I think i'm going to just bite it take the loss. Well, actually, I don't really consider it much of a loss. The engine that I got from T3 is awesome! Thanks again guys. It is as stong as when it was new! Maybe stronger!

Anyway, I've got a 5 week old son now and in the process of buying a house not to mention working day and night.

Nuff of me rambling. As far as the brake problem, it was an easy fix...well for now...found a puddle under the left front wheel. bad line! Whooooo Hooooo! $25 for a new one and she's running again. This weekend I'm planning to flush the rest of the lines out and put some synthetic dot 3/4.

I'm going to try and check the forums a little more often.

out, rack

Congratualtions on the sprout. There is a post with a link to boiling points of various brands. I like ATE Blue and the Castrol DOT4 (SynMaster?) is available everywhere.
