I would like to finally swap the stock TCU in my 92 for a TCU that starts in 1st gear.

I have done a search and found two types of response. One camp says that one can use a 93-95 and the other says only the 93. Where is the truth? If there is a specific TCU, what is the part number?

Also, is there any downside to the swap?

ThanksKen K

Any 93-95 will do the job. I've had a couple 94s and a 93 in my Qs.

Downside? Snow. You will die in the snow unless you keep your old TCU as a spare.

I don't live in snow country, but couldn't one just manually start off in 2nd gear?

Unfortunately, no. With the 93-95 TCU, it always starts in first.

yes.... jesda is right. Personally, if you can find a 93 TCU its more ideal however i woudlnt pay extra or wait for one to creep up.

Even with the shift lever in 2nd gear?
