I think the OEM shocks have gotten softer... that is why I have 2 very slightly used OEM rear struts stil in my garage. They were awful, about as bad as the OEM struts I was replacing a few years ago.qship96 wrote:slightly stiffer, sportrier, better controlled ride.
These 2 rear struts were new from Scottsdale when I first intalled them on my '94. A couple years earlier I had replaced all four on my '92 with OEMs from Scottsdale, and they were much stiffer.Q45tech wrote:The question is manufacturing date? How long after production do the shocks maintain Nitrogen expansion pressure....I am guessing here, but after changing multi dozens of sets it appears that 4 years once used [cycled] is about the life if it coincides with ~~~60k.
please correct me if i'm wrong.......does tokiko only lasts for 10k mi??Q45tech wrote:Comfortable compared to who and what? Comfortable at what temperature? Comfortable at what velocity of what bump? Comfortable brand new, at midlife or near the end of life? Shocks wear and change every day throughout their lives.
Cold new shocks in cold weather are often very stiff until they warm up and wear in after 5,000 or 10,000 miles.Even the FSM gives a wide range of shock stiffness as ok.............this range covers 50%+ [for example 70-110 pounds at the same velocity of movement].
You could take a dozen brand new shocks and measure them, expect pretty wide oem build tolerances for something that only cost $30 to make.
Never equate retail with cost to manufacture....too many middlemen in the chain.
