I now have 3 Infinitis - and my 92 Q must go.

My basic worry is that it is not perfect, but in California I might get more if I sell the car to the salvage yard than I could if someone buys the car and drives it for the rest of its useful life. It makes me sad, I (and my son) have put a lot of miles on that car in over 12 years. But it is not like my 94 Q which is really good condition, the body is shiny but rough, and the leather cRacKed. The good news is that knowing the scrap yard value is pretty good, it makes the sales process easy.

But I feel like it is bad to that I won't sell her for less than the scrap value, even though the car will end up squished.

What is a 17 year G50 owner to do?

Here is the link to the sale, if anyone is interested...

What's it worth in terms of scrap value... just out of curiosity?

It is a California thing - they want to get old V8s, etc. of the road. You have to have owned the car for some years and some other conditions. I am not sure on the details, my wife did me the favor of looking all this up.

$1000.
And to sell the car in CA I need to pay additional fees, do a smog test, etc., so to sell it I need more than the $1000.
How is that for an effective policy for getting old cars off the road?

I believe there are also income limits. If you make above the cutoff you are not eligible for the program if I remember correctly. If you make below a certain amount you might be eligible for up to $500 worth of smog repairs if that program is still in effect.

You will make more if you part it out. But time spent might not be cost effective. Chop up the frame and sell it as metal. The interior could get you a decent penny if in grand shape.

I am having enough trouble getting the time to think about the *simple* suspension mods I want to do on my M.

On the other hand, if it does get scrapped, someone should want the AC/Climate control display - because it actually works! And a driveshaft with 40K miles has value, too.

You'd also have the satisfaction of knowing that parts of your car were helping to keep other Qs on the road - in spite of the best efforts of the local enviro-nazis.

There is a darlington resistor ( fan blower sensor ) behind the glove box... if you remove the glove box, you will see an odd shaped silver part recessed inside a plastic part that is the same size... If you do scrap the car, can you give me a figure on how much you would want for it? I need one, and it takes aprox. 4 minutes to remove the glove box and that part...

That conclusion is not made yet... though I must admit, there is a lot fewer folks looking at this as a loss than I thought.
As an example of a G50, this car is not going to be restored as anyone's long term ride, just not in that nice shape.

I wonder how many clean G50's are out there still. There were not too many sold, maybe 65K total over 6 1/2 years?

Most people that are restoring there cars or plan to keep them for a very long time (Passing it down to their children) try to find parts cheap. I say keep it because most of the new cell phones I mean cars are not going to last long.

I am already keeping my 94t - just bought pillow block tension rods along with new upper control arms just to do it right and tight at the young age of 240K miles. I get it, and that is my problem. Three Inifintis are too many, and my son (who drove the '92 for six years) is looking forward to public transport and zip cars, and borrowing one of my cars if he ever feels like it.

Meanwhile, no pull from buyers.
