hi! My pathfinder is making a strange sound when I hit the gas - Its like a whirlling or spinning sound that increases when I press the gas. I check the oil and all the other standard stuff - it seems like its coming from underneath the driverside but damit I cant tell!! So i recorded it .... if you click the following link you can hear it.. my sites password is maryam

Can anyone please offer some trouble shooting advice. I have the dealer repair book (looks like a phone book!) and the regular repair book i purchased at kragen, they were not much help. Thanks!

Here is the link

first off the sound clip is cool. are you sure thats not coming from the timing belt area? Is your car an auto or manual trans?

I popped the hood and listened.... and revved the engine from there and i cant tell, I recent put in new spark plugs the timing belt was replace several months ago along with allll the other belts water pump too! I recently had my flex plate go out - the bolts came loose? 800 bucks!

My pathfinder is automatic 4x4 with 189k miles. The transmission was replaced several years ago,, cant remember right now. What do you think? The sound was recorded on my canon powershot! cool hu?~!

What is mean??? You mean my avatar??...lol no thats a dead horse. Not including your question in this topic but that is suppose to symbolize 90% of the questions I do answer that seem to be repeated daily.

Does the noise change when you drop the car in gear or when you are driving at all? If its trans related it may be the pump in the trans or planetaries making all that racket.

Dead horse! okay okay!

Damn, my friend at midas just checked it out and he thinks its the transmission, I had Aamco in Santa Clara replace it back in 7/99 when the car only had 108,896 miles. Is it me or do Nissans have crappy transmissions? Ive had two nissans and they both had tran problems. I am looking at the recipt from 99 - 1291.71 for a rebuilt tran and 1379 for labor. I think Im gonna cry.

typically nissan automatic transmissions are almost bullit proof if properly maintained, biggest problem I see is over filling. Their trans tend to do better on slightly low levels then on slightly high levels. Properly changing and maintaining the level of fluid in them will make them last the life of the car. But once one does fail you are better off buying a factory rebuild rather then having a local shop rebuild it. The factory rebuilds meet OEM spec where local shops tend to let some things exceed spec depending on its importance to trans operation, The noise I heard in your video sounds like gear nosie which is something a local rebuilder wont replace unless it is flat out broke.
