92 maxima transmission problems.....

ok, here goes.

I'm working on 2 1992 maxima's with the same problem...they are both stuck in 2nd gear (A/t) and the speedo doesn't work when driving. The speedo WILL work if the sensor is removed and turned with a drill with the key on. Both have vg30e's... tried new vss's, replaced trannys, replaced atc's with no luck. I've heard that a bad tps can do this. Anyone back this up or have any other info before i head back into it?

That's definitely a strange one. I'm not too versed in auto trannies so have no clue where to start. Two things do come to mind, I know there's some little piece in the shift linkage on the Maxima's that tend to break or deform causing shifting issues and I believe there is also supposed to be a temp sensor that puts the transmission in a higher gear when it thinks its cold (though I think it goes into 3rd gear so that may not be the issue).

One thing I do know for sure... they aren't the greatest of auto trannies and tend to go out rather easily.
