Alright, I did a search and came up with nothing....

So, a neighbor of mine has a 92 maxima in his yard. He is going to try to fix it, and it needs an alternator. I am slightly mechanically inclined and volunteered to help him. I haven't looked under the hood as of yet, but I do know it is a v6 under there. Can someone tell me if the alternator is in an easily accessible location, or if it is going to be a *****?

If its the VG, at most you'll have to take off the plastic panels to get to it. I know for sure on the VG its on the front of the engine and can be taken off with 3 bolts. Two on the top and one on the tensioner bracket (one of the wires should have a small bolt as well so 4 total if I remember correctly).

Yeah, I went and looked at it today. It is a VG30DE. The alternator is on the passsenger side, right between the engine and the passenger side inner fender well. At least it doesn't look like I will have to do much, aside from removing the oil splash shield (that plastic lining on the bottom) Hopefully it doesn't take too much work. I have changed them on hondas and pontiacs before, but both 4 cyl's.

It's a VG30E, actually (SOHC instead of DOHC like the VG30DE).

I've changed a fair few on mine. It's not a particularly difficult job. The hardest part is working a wrench in the tight quarters around the alternator.

Don't forget to disconnect your battery!
