The car idles smooth in park or in neutral, but in drive, it has a 'pulsing-sensation' as one other member described in a post but never got an answer. The car doesn't feel like the 190 hp beast it should be (slower my girls old camry). I bought it with 135,000 miles on it and it had this problem. The odo is broken, but I suppose i put another 50-70k miles on it. This sensation has always, reliably been there, and I've just ignored it.
***But now the transmission is locking up on the highway and the engine stalls out at times. It will drive fine sometimes, but if i'm going up a hill or hitting the accellerator too much it will upshift/downshift by itself repeatedly but mostly it just stalls the motor. I have to nurse the accellerator just to drive to my destination, as this problem happens consistantly now.
I've checked the transmission fluid twice, the first time the color looked relatively normal but it had metal shavings in it (early morning lighting). The second time i noticed the color was a little browned but i didn't see shavings. The previous owner overfilled the trans (but it never leaks down), and ive never drained it to correct level (is that a problem
I dont beleive the hesitation is due to ignition, because I've changed the plugs and nothing really changed, however a coilpack could be why, thought I'm sure I checked the spark visually and it looked fine. The engine mounts are in poor condition as well, but I believe the main problem is my limited slip differential, which I know they will lock up in poor fliud conditions, however I don't know if the thing uses a separate fluid or just the transmission fluid.
SO MY QUESTION: Is it worth changing the fluid and filter or is the transmission shot? (It otherwise shifts smoothly)
AND: Do I need to add some Positraction Additive to the transmission fluid (standard autozone stuff)? Are they compatible? Or is there a separate resevoir for the rear end?
Does anyone have a the fsm for the limited slip Auto transmission? The one on this site is for the non-lsd.
