I puirchased the Chilton shop manual for the '92 maxima and read the proceduer. It is incomplete. Id does not mention about 1/4th of the stuff that needs to be removed to repalce the injectors.

Any words of advice before I go for it? Do I need the throttle body gasket or can I bypass removing the throttle body and just pull the lower and upper plenum's off the intake? I got 6 new injectors to put on. Any and all input is appreciated. I have the tools and am mechanicall inclined.

Thanks for the input. BTW, I am going to try and do this in one day (this upcomming Sunday...I have the upper and lower intake gaskets, tools, valve cover gaskets which im gonna repalce too, penetrating oil, wd40,, tools, etc...)...

Its been a while since I've worked on my Maxima but if memory serves, at most you just need to pull of that elbow. There are some vacuum lines on the bottom of the throttle body that are a bit difficult to get to with the elbow on but can be done.

You only have to pull the upper plenum and maybe the plate under it to get access to the injectors. The lower plenum doesn't need removed so unless the gaskets are bad, I wouldn't bother as there are coolant lines running through it, which means more gaskets to replace that may not be necessary.

Once you get to the injectors, be sure to lube them a tiny bit to get them to slide into the rail good. If you try to force them in dry you can roll or even tear the o-ring and it will cause a major fuel leak... kind of like this:

Make sure the o-rings that the fuel rail seats into are good, otherwise they can cause vacuum leaks.

Good luck with it! If you need any other info just post up your questions.

thanks for the tip. I will not pull the lower plenum, only the upper. Did that motor survive with all the fuel in there?

Use white lithium greese that works the best.

Yeah, it still ran after that fiasco... though there's a chance I could have bent a rod. I've actually seen a guy running their VG with a bent rod without knowing it. It was... amazing to say the least.

One last queston, did you reconnect the fuel rail and such and turn on the igniton to chekc for leaks? Im assuming whenI put the fuel rail on and such I can turn the ignition switch on to build up pressure in the fuel system and check for leaks.

Thanks again.

Yup, you can do that. It never crossed my mind when I was putting it back together to do that. I was only pulling one injector out to get a part number off of it and it felt like it slipped back in alright but one of the o-rings rolled and it filled that manifold fast. It actually caused fuel to come out of the elbow on the front of the manifold.

I just let it sit to work on it the next day and drained the oil... there was no thickness to the oil at all. It was baaaaaaaad.
