92 ka is a dropping resistor needed?

I originally swapped an sr into my black coupe( its a 92) and discarded all the ka stuff. I got a different 240 still a 92 and swapped the motors between them. When I was hooking everything back up into the black coupe, i noticed that there is no wiring for the dropping resistor next to the coil. Is it really needed since it looks like coupe was never wired for one and it had a ka to begin with?
