This morning I stop by the gas station to fuel up. After that, my G20 won't start. I try jump it up but failed. After about 30 minutes, a friend come over to help and he start it right up, turn it off and start it again right up. I took it over, lower down the window, and try to start it and failed. Again, I can't jump it up. The engine is not even cranking. I only hear one single click when I turn the ignition key instead of a series of clicks that I would usually expect.

Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks!

When I had these exact same problems on my 88 Mazda 929, it boiled down to these possibilities: Starter, Alternator, Battery, Fuseable Link, Fuses.

It became all of the above except alternator and battery. This is a tough one...

9 times out of 10 on that model, you have a arcing spot on the armature in the starter, or the brass washer on the solenoid which in turn will cause intermittent starting. To be sure, I would take a test light or voltmeter and have someone hold the key switch in the start position and see if you are getting the voltage at the starter connector to activate the starter motor. I also would recommend replacing it with a nissan/infiniti brand starter assy.

What is a starter assembly? Is that the key assembly?

My car starts up after 5 hour in the parking lot. Some people suggest a leaky fuel injector may have something to do with it that cause flooded the engine. In my situation, the starting motor did not even crank so I am more incline to the problem you described. What do I tell the mechanic about this "starter assembly"?

The starter assembly is the starter motor. A leaky fuel injector will not cause a starter to not crank (unless completely hydrolocked, but it would still try), so tell those people to join NICO so they can quit giving bad advice. My flutor valve is not worn out! A technician should be able to determine if the starter motor is getting voltage, and also troubleshoot it from there.

My G20 does it again. I have to leave it on the spot over night and the next morning it start right up. I drove it to the dealer to have it scanned and the bill comes in $490 + Tax for putting a new starter. I have not pick it up yet but I will tomorrow. Just hope the new starter is indeed the fix.

Just wonder, how much should that be for this repair?

Not sure, but considering I can't get my plugs changed at a dealer for less than $500, it doesn't sound too bad.

I would guess $490 + tax if it has been done.

What was the estimate?

If its just a starter, then heck, a freaking monkey can install a starter. (Yes, I know Dennis is rolling his eyes.) Buy the part online (Scottsdale! infinitipartsusa.com) and take it to a local shop to R&R the starter. Save about 1/2 on labor.

I got my car back. A new starter fix it. Pay $490 for parts and laber, Tax extra. Thank all on this board for the enlightening. The dealer recommend to get the engine a bath. Any opinion here?

A clean machine is a thing of joy, especially if you are the technician who works on it.

What does it look like to you? Would you eat off it?__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t

Most dealers will charge $100-140 for a full detail, $50 for just the engine compartment. A lot of local shops specialize in that kind of work, and of course will save you some money.

http://www.envirolution.com Sounds like an Infniniti Dealer Price Might find a Honda or independent dealer that will do it for less. Call them with the 800 nymber on their web site. __________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t

Jiffy Lube does a Bilstein engine flush for $69 (promotional price). Usually I think its $110. I had it done on my 1995 Mazda 626 at 245k, works great.

Yes, I know, the guys there arent always the best or brightest but for this kind of job, there isnt really anything they can screw up. They connect the machine and turn it on. Half hour later, youre good to go.
