I want the transmission control unit for a 92 to 94 vert, part no. 31036 53F01, ETC-N100 A1 3507 I want everyone to know what problems to espect with the automatic transmission problems. First, I believe my 83 year old mother smoked the transmission by running the car without water. After replacing all cooling sytem components, radiator, fan clutch assembly and water pump, I experienced an intermittant shift problem, down shift by itself from overdrive to drive on the highway. After taking the transmission pan down, adding a new filter, and new fluid, it still persisted. So I put a new speed control sensor on. It seemed to do the trick. I drove the car for about 6 months without any more problems. Then in front of my buddy's repair shop the transmission growned to a halt. The planetary gears were smoked after the trans was disassembled. A boneyard trans by a supposedly good guy was installed. It worked for two weeks then all of a sudden the car would not go into 1st gear or overdrive. So it was towed to the shop. Another transmission was put in. It still would not shift into overdrive or first gear. So we put a new solenoid pack in. Still no improvement. The problem was discovered in the transmission control unit under the glove box behind the fan motor. I was told by a rebuilder of these units that the cause was electric in nature and could have been attributed to the solenoid pack being bad or a bad wiring harness. So far it seems logical that if you had a degree in engineering you'd have already put a gun to your head or burnt the car to the ground. At this point I need to get the part for the transmission (above as described) Before install, the computer tech said to have someone olm all the wires to check for a short which I know I will have a friend do. It is obviously very time consuming and difficult to diagnose all the problems that can go wrong with these automatic trannys. I recommend anyone faint of heart and short on cash like me to locate another car with a 5 speed and do the swap. I am still hopeful that the wiring is still good and that the problem was in deed the solinoid pack inside the transmission that caused the short and smoked the transmission control unit. Until I know more...pray for me. Matt
