I recently purchased a 92 300zx 2+2

i test drove it and it ran pretty well. ive had the car for about a week now and everything seems fine with the car. Im not a big car guy but ive always been inlove with the 300zx and i finally got one.

Although the car seems to run fine, i still want to fix anything that might have a problem in the near future for a car this old.

the car has 104k miles. which i thought was fantastic for a 92. It had only 50k on it until about 2002 when i guess the previous owner started really driving the car.

the previous owner was a female so im guessing the car was driven pretty well.

Anyway.... what should i look to fix first?

am planning on installing a cold air intake system soon, but other than that what should i look to replace? timing belt? alternator, exhaust?

thanks for the help,Hector

Hey man nice car and welcome to NICO. That's a clean ride you got there. How much was it if you don't mind me asking? Automatic or manual?

Anyways...you should inspect the car thoroughly...for rust and such. Check the engine bay and underneath to make sure nothing is out of place. You should probably change the oil, put some transmission fluid in, change the air, oil, and fuel filters if they're bad. Change the timing belt, alternator if it's broken or looks bad. An exhaust isn't something that important to replace unless its rusted or something's wrong or if you just want to make it sound nice and get some extra hp. The exhaust can come a little later. For now just make sure everything is running properly...check you brakes, lights, make sure your tires have proper tire pressure, you should re-align them just in case. Check your lights, transmission, wipers, make sure you got wiper fluid, etc. That's all I can remember for now...take good care of her she's a beauty.

hey thanks for the quick reply.

i paid 9k for her... ive seen others that have found better deals but i still feel i got a good deal because its the car of my dreams [ minus a 911gt3 ]and with proper maintenance i think she'll last me a very long time.

but ok ill look into all that you mentioned starting with the timing belt, seeing as i heard if it goes bad it might be catastrophic.

another question...

so i dont get ripped off.. how much should a timing belt run me? how about an alternator?

thanks,Hector

No problem...as for how much a timing belt/alternator would cost...sorry but I wouldn't know that one as I never had to buy one. I would suggest you use the search button to find out if someone else asked that. Also, check out some websites like autozone just to get a price. Somebody else will probably answer the question better than me.

yes if the timing belt is unknown replace ti imediately, expect the basic belt job to be in the $500 range, it's realy not too hard to do yourself and can save you a lot of money, might want to do the thermostat, waterpump and belt tensioner while your in there
