i have been reading the posts regarding turbo ka's and n/a ka's. i havent seen a post about a ka24de with a turbo kit, that has about 160k mi +, and running about 6-8 psi.

my question is:

can a ka24de with 160k mi handle about 6-8 psi for a couple of years?

i know it can handle 300hp+ with stock internals but the engine im talking about has stock internals and has 160k mi+ on it. what do you guys think? is the engine still reliable with boost with that much mileage? thanks.

It all depends on the engine's condition and maintence. Was the oil changed every 3,000 miles? notice any engine problems? awkward responses anywhere in the powerband?check the compression too. I'm pretty sure it should be around 180psi per cylinder. Thats about all you can really do without opening up the engine.

yeah it was maintained and the oil was changed every 3000 miles. ill go check the compression. the car runs strong and good. so how much psi of boost is possible?

We can't really tell you not knowing factual conditions of the engine. If it's running well, but not quite at par for compression (170's across), I'd say you could do a good 4psi without worrying too much.

FWIW: I ran 7psi non-intercooled on a 140k mile block for a month, then blew the turbine which led to oil failure, resulting in the end of that block's life (quite possibly the highest stock HP, 142.6rwhp, recorded on a dyno for an S14). I think if I hadn't blown the turbine, I would've been all set for at least a year or so.

In the end, I've seen 90k mile blocks in MUCH better condition than 50k mile blocks, and 140k mile blocks do better on a dyno than 40k mile blocks. It's all about maintenance and abuse.

cool...how about running 6 psi daily? how much rwhp did you get with 7psi?
