If you want to know the whole story, read the entire post. if you just want to get straight to my question, read the underlined parts.
on the KAs is there supposed to be some sort of specific way of replacing the starter. a fellow NICO user (240_l3oi) asked me to babysit his 92 240sx while he is in the Philippines. he gave me a large list of things that are wrong with the car that he wants me to fix. yesterday he mentioned tail lights and check engine light. NOW...his car wont crank.
my friend and i recently replaced his old starter with another rebuilt starter from Autozone. after replacing the car the car started right up and things were just peachy until this morning.
im using his car to get me from point A (home) to point B (work) and to point C (school) and back to point A everyday. his car decided to F**K with me on the second day ive had it (TODAY).
i tried to get it to start, but all it does is whine. it sounds like the teeth on the starter were GNAWED off, but seeing its a new starter i dont see why it would happen so quickly (the new starter was only used from sunday up until this morning).
so is there a certain method of placing the starter back in its hole? according to ALLDATA, there are only 4 steps to replacing this thing, and nowhere does it specify torque specs or or certain methods of replacement. there is a diagnosis tree, and it tree points me in the direction of "Check pinion gear teeth for wear/ pinion clutch assembly. Replace if neccessary."
How would i check the pinion clutch assembly?
GAH....how i hate 240_l3oi's electrical system. one of the cleanest used 240sxs around, but my god I hate his electrical..... ::shudders::
someone tell me there is some sort of celestial being from Nissan out there.
