I have an automatic 1992 240SX and the downshifting seems to be a little off. When I am going on a big road at, say, 70MPH, and slow to make a right-hand turn, it still seems to stay in at least the 3rd gear or something. The RPMs are at or below 2000. So, I have tried flooring the pedal... that keeps it at really low RPMs then all the sudden bursts to ~8000 because it downshifts late. Letting off the pedal completely never seems to help at all.

In a (maybe) related issue, the car seems to run hot at times. Usually the downshifting is fine when I start my car after the engine is cooled down. The above problem only happens after I have run the car for a while, and it starts to get really hot but not quite overheat. I usually turn off the A/C and take it easy until it cools down.

A little background: the car was run until its oil ran out at one time (naive previous owner) so the engine completely locked up. I had the engine replaced when I got the car with a new stock KA. As far as I know, they did the following work that relates to this issue: replaced thermostat, flushed radiator, new coolant, maybe checked module valve, new transmission fluid.

So, my question is, should I replace the radiator to try and fix these issues? Sorry if I wasn't descriptive enough or sound noobish, because I am .

Thanks in advance,Steve-o

Trans issue and overheat issue are likely not related. Trans issue could be one of 2 things rev sensor gets a bit stupid once the trans reaches op temp so it no longer registers properly. You can side step this by unplugging it and letting the car use the speed sensor for revolution speed. There is a thread on trans issues in 240 vert. take a look at that. I think the thread was for a 94 but its the same set up.The second possibility could be your TPS is out of adjustment.

The over heat issue could be an air pocket tons of info in here how to bleed it.
