My 240sx was overheating awhile ago, and i had to park it for about a year (long story why it sat for so long). I recently moved it so i can work on it. one of the problems that i found was that the water pump was leaking. So, today i took it off and it was rusty!!! What would be the best thing to do besides replacing the WP? Any suggestions on the best way to clean it out? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

replace it or you are just setting yourself up for future problems.

I plan on replacing the WP and T-stat, is there any other way to get rid of the rust other than flushing the sysem regularly?

not really, if youre referring to inside the block you could have the engine taken out and stripped, then hot tanked.

so do you think that it would be best to go ahead and replace everything, like the hoses and radiator? From what i can see the radiator looks ok, but what do you think is best?

no, but start with the simple or cheap things first and work your way up if your problem isnt solved.

the exception to this rule is when you KNOW what is broken i.e leaking water pump, bad radiator etc...

i tore down and rebuilt the system 3 times to find where i was leaking. it sucked, but now i know my way around it better.

go ahead and replace water pump and thermostat, flush the system a few times, then burp the air out and see if that works. if not, its time to keep looking.

My car also runs choppy, could it be from old gas?

could be, drain the tank and fill it up with good gas.

i dont trust the additives you are supposed to be able to put into a tank of old gas, but someone might have had a positive experience and can chime in about it.
