When evaluating a car's value, try not to just add up the cost of the parts the pervious owner threw on there, unless it's something BIG, like a cherry suspension setup or turbo install or something.
There's a short list of mods I would allow to elevate the cost of a used car:
- New performance suspension, professionally installed.- Engine swap performed by a professional with receipts.- New paint on a straight chassis/body. NOT Maaco or Earl Sheib (sp?)
Still, all this is subjective. An engine swap would only boost the cost of the car if it was a swap I would want to make myself. New suspension would have to come from a manufacturer I trust. The paint would have to be tasteful.
At any rate, the A'pexi exhaust tips aren't expensive enough to matter. It just means the fool cheaped out and didn't get an A'pexi exhaust. Tires don't matter either, IMHO.
All that said, I would pay more for complete maintenance records than any "tuner" mod. Honestly, mileage doesn't even mean that much to me, especially with regard to used imports. A properly maintained 180K car will outdo a 90K car if the previous owner of the younger car had to make compromises. And unless the previous owner of your 92 240sx wanted JUST exhaust tips, I think he had to compromise.
