rogue240sx I think we all missunderstood you.

One thing to remember is that the 240 is an 18-20 YEAR OLD CAR! (Early KA). It was designed to run on the fuel available BACK THEN. Around here (Las Vegas) back in the 80's 91 octane was "Regular". Now it is 87.

What it comes down to is you need to test with your own car AND your local blend of fuel. Not all 87 is the same. Some areas use additives year round others only a few months. Keep good records of fuel use and cost per mile and use what ever give you the cost vs performance that you want.

Will you hurt your car if you run 87 or 91 or 93? Most likely not. BUT it may run better or cheaper per mile on one or the other.

You know what is the ****? I have found in my town the cheapest gas/cigarette store is walmart gas. Cheaper than gogas plus they carry 93 (gogas 92 highest). And if you buy gas with a gift card you get an extra 3-4 cent off per gallon. Thats not the end of it though, my cars runs at its best using it. I put some bp in it the other week and it ran like ***; may have been bad but still. After it ran out put walmart back in and she ran fine instantly.

Good question. Well past few years when I was making bank I didn't care. As of past 7-8 months I started realizing how much I spent on gas a quested for the cheapest 93 in town.

I have a 1995 5spd. I have been running 93 since the very beginning. You arent saving much running low octane and there is a difference in power and how the engine operates. I recently went KA-T so I have to run higher octane now. Regardless higher octane will improve gas mileage and will make the motor perform smoother. The difference between a full tank of 87 and 91 or even 93 isnt going to be much and you wont save more then a few bucks per year, so the cost of getting premium is nothing compared to the advantages. Also gas prices in general are high compared to wages so were SOL for the most part regardless, we have to either drive less, get cars with better gas mileage or earn more money. And BTW im in Chicago, the outskirts and im paying $4.11 for premium. Its closer to $4.25 near downtown! We might hit $5 this summer.

Ok. I've run three tanks of 87 octane gasoline through. I averaged 28.4 miles per gallon in city/ highway mixed use, but mainly highway. I filled up with 93 octane today and I'll update after the forth fill-up.

I saw a dyno sheet of an 06-07 nissan frontier with an upgraded intake and they tested 91 octane vs 87 octane and it made 3-4 more whp with the 87 octane fuel. I usually use 91, but I've tried using 87 and I don't feel any difference between the two... gas out here is $4.65(87oct) and $4.80(91oct)...sucks!

that amount of horse power is within the window of error. putting higher octane fuel in a car that's not tuned for it, such as the frontier, is a useless venture. Also $.15 x14gal=2.10 a fill up. are you that worried about it?

My fuel mileage actually dropped on the 93 octane. I went from 28.4 with 87 to 28.1 with 93. The only thing different that I did was use the AC as it was still fairly cool when I was using 87 octane, although I did keep my windows down when I wasn't running my AC back then.

The whole windows being down thing does not affect your mileage at all. Its been proven. However......running your AC will most definitly get worse mileage b/c it makes your engine work harder. Try running 87 again w/ the AC on and check your mileage. I'll bet you'll get worse than w/ the 93.

.3 mpg is a mere difference in ambient temps, throttle usage, driving speeds, tire resistance/the psi you have in them, amount of turning, amount of idling, etc. There's no reason to say you got any less mileage with 93. You can't actually drive the exact same 2 different times, it is impossible. On top of that windows down does hurt your gas mileage quite a bit...If I drive with the windows down in my 240 for a week I get consistently 2-3 mpg less. The only time having windows down doesn't hurt mileage is when you're driving under 40 mph or so...when wind resistance isn't a factor. A/C is more efficient over 40ish.

if everything you said is true. then how do you KNOW that driving with your windows down creates enough wind resistnace to make you get less mpg? you can't drive the same everytime you drive your car. I have tried multiple times with diff. fuels and methods of getting better mpg. 93 is better for my car and windows down being down doesn't affect anything. I commute 160 miles a day for work so i have plenty of time to test.
