92 240sx maf problem

I just bought a MAF for my 92 240 DOHC it runs*car didnt come with one*.. but only revs up to 2.5K with no maf. i plug in the maf *4 pin* and it runs for like a second.then dies. now the plug from my harness is a 4 pin plug but it only has 3 wires in it. i thought ok well the plug is just missing the one wire. so i cut the plug off up about 3 inches and there are only 3 wires. i was going to replace it with the 4 wire pigtale i have. but the harness only has 3 wires. a white black and white/black *if i remember right* so whats with my harness and what can i do about it.

match the colors on the mafs wiring. 3 or 4 spots on the plug don't matter, as long as the plug fits the mafs, just match the colors.

so i swapped the signal and ground wire around. it revs now but rins fat as ****
