Hey all, I've got a clunking issue I've been battling for WEEKS now. I'll try and provide as much information as I can.
My car is a '92 hatch with ebay (maxpeedingrods) coilovers installed, with ISR rear camber and toe arms. Everything else is stock.
I have a clunking sound in the right rear. A while ago I swapped the rear coilovers (left side to right, right side to left) and the clunk nearly disappeared. Got an alignment and drove it like that for a while, but I eventually realized the ride height of the car was uneven, so today I took the time to adjust all 4 coilovers to an even height.
Here's the issue: I lowered the rear right to get the ride height I wanted, and upon driving it I noticed two things. 1: It pulls to the left now (makes sense due to the ride height affecting alignment) and 2: The clunking is back and worse than ever. I can lift the right rear corner of the car with one hand and I'll hear the clunk. It happens with the TINIEST of bumps on the road.
I've greased and re-tightened the top hat bearing, reset pre load (approx 7 mm), lifted and dropped the knuckle by hand with the coilover and wheel off (and didn't hear any clunking), and even replaced the rubber in the top hat after requesting it from maxpeedingrods.
Couple things to note as well:
-The rear left coilover's height is a lot taller than the one on the right, but the car sits level like that. It's also a salvage title and may have a tweaked frame but I haven't noticed anything significant.
-The rubber in the rear suspension (minus the listed mods) is old, so I'm wondering if it is subframe related.
If anyone has advice I would greatly appreciate it. I'm about at my limit with this car.
