First, Some info about my car:- 92 240sx Hatch - Base model - Manual Trans- New clutch- New flywheel- New Spark plugs- New Fuel and Air filters- Engine has ~68,000 miles- All new parts have ~600 miles on themThe car has a high idle (1100-1300) that I can not fix by adjusting the IACV without stalling the car or causing it to hunt between 500 and 900 and shake. The temp gauge in the dash is dead, Ive removed and cleaned both Temp sensors and still no change.

I recently swapped my old blown Engine for a KA24DE from a 95 240sx. For the past few weeks its run as well as can be expected with a few minor issues (listed above). Recently I went to start the car and it made a loud grinding (metal on metal) noise from under the hood. I backed off the key and waited a few seconds and tried again. It made the same noise before finally turning over. Once running the engine acts like normal, well still with the high idle and all that. I have let the car fully warm up, turn it off, then try to start again and it will still make the same noise.

I searched around and have a few ideas but nothing solid. The only ideas I have is that either my starter is breaking down or that the ECU Temp sensor is dead causing a lot of fuel to be dumped in at start (as mentioned in another post when I searched). Though, Im leaning towards starter because of the metal on metal noise.

Any Ideas?

Well after this weekend Im fairly certain its the starter. Im going to pull it within the next few days to see what the deal is, But it seems something is wrong with the solenoid in it. At least as far as I can tell.
