92 240sx - Grind noise and rough start...starter?

OK so the car is a 92 240sx and im thinking it needs a new starter but thought i would check. The noise only occurs for a second right when its started. Its a grinding noise. Its not the chain guides i removed them already and thought perhaps it was the chain just gathering oil but a neighbor said it may be the starter.

Also, not every time but more often than not, the car right when its started jumps down in rpms. Like when the car is started and is supposed to jump up then slide down to around 750 it will just fall to 550ish. It almost seems like it barely has enough power to start it.

So what do you guys think? New starter or what?

That would be my guess: either you've knocked a tooth or two off the starter gear, or the starter solonoid is sticking.
