I recently swapped my engine with another one. It was out of a friends car (he swapped an SR) and it ran fine before(the engine is a ka24de). Now after the swap I can't seem to get it running. All grounds are connected, I am getting fuel, spark, and my timing is correct according to the fsm. What will happen is I will let it sit over night, then go to start it up, it will start for about 3 seconds then die(which leads me to believe it is flooding itself because i smell lots of fuel). I have stabbed my distributor alot and I do know how to time it correctly, I have tried many teeth and twisted and turned it alot also, but still no luck. The process is to take off the valve cover, then turn the motor over via the crank pulley, then make sure the first cams are pointed straight out (facing away from each other) while having something in the # 1 spark plug hole(ratchet extension) to make sure it is TDC...Then line the rotor up with the # 1 spark plug hole on the cap. Easy as that, however I am still having no luck in starting it up.

Also, I compression tested all of my cylinders, the results arecyl. compression1 1352 1503 1504 130

now i did not have the throttle body open when testing, nor did I put oil in the cyclinders to see if rings are worn. However the FSM says the standard compression is 179 and the minimum is 151 and the most they are supposed to differ is 14 psi...

anyone want to take a stab at this?thanks -tim

Just curious do you have access to fuel pressure gauge to see if maybe you are just losing fuel pressure sounds like fuel system is priming but not staying on? Have you pulled a plug to see if it is soaked with gas afterinitial start up? If you din't have access to a fuel pressure gauge and your plugs are not fuel fouled try spraying carb cleaner in booster hose for about5 seconds try to restart. If it restarts you have fuel delivery problem. Man I hope this helps you out.

check you injectors with a noid light to see if your injectors are pulsing. also check your oil to see if it smells like gas after trying to start.

My injectors are definitely putting out fuel, and yes my oil smells like gas too.could gas get into the cylinders if the injectors werent pulsing?

Yes, because if the injector is not pulsing it is just free flowing gas into the cylinder.

loose wiring, bad injector or bad ground.

I am having the same problem with mine of starting for a few seconds then dieing? Though mine is a '91 and this is happening after having the head rebuilt due to blown head gasket that was leaking oil into the cooling jacket causing over heating issues. I have replaced the FPR with and oem and upgrade my fuel pump to the Walbro. Though I am still having the same issue. I have also pulled my fuel rail to check for atomization from the injectors and they are spraying fine. I also did notice that all for were pulsing at the same time which I thought was off then read that on start up all pulse together and then after the engine is running it alternates. Just checking to make sure this is correct?

Any other ideas as to what could be causing the engine to drown itself with fuel?

Thx,Nick

Does anyone have any ideas what else could be causing the engine to fire and start for a few seconds then just die?
