I made a post about this, but let me summarize it up real quick.
Bought a 92 240 for a great price cause the motor dies randomly
I've had it for a month and it died on me today on the road.
The car: 92 KA 240sx. New plugs, new wires, amongst other tune up things. The car was full of premium fuel when the motor died.
I'd been riding around all day running errands no problems. I leave the store, and I'm at a stop sign. I start off like normal, and shift into second and the motor died out of no where. No sputter, nothing. rpm drops and the lights on the cluster come on.
I try to crank it and it wouldn't turn over. I crank for about 3-5 mins and it just won't turn over. Finally it starts grabbing a little and I'm mashing the gas pedal and it finally catches.
When it catches it's almost about to die, and i'm getting bad throttle response, and it's sputtering like it's missing a cylinder. I keep the RPMS up and the motor stays alive. After 30-45 seconds of keeping the rpms up it starts to hold an idle and i'm able to drive it to a parking spot.
I had a similar issue with my old civic before and it turned out to be a distributor.
THe previous owner says he's replaced the distributor, but I'm affraid he may of just gotten cap and rotor or something. I'm thinking it could also be a coil as well.
I tried to turn the car on afterwards and it turned over just fine.
I replaced the fuel filter (put in a z32 filter) when I did my tune up, i'm not thinking fuel cause if it missing on fuel it wouldn't of died so quickly. The motor would of hesitated when it dieing. My gut is telling me distributor.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
