Just bought a used 92 240sx. The engine is blowing white, black and blue smoke...what could be the possible causes? We know it need a new valve cover gasket, but am wondering if this will correct the problem. Not sure where else to look. Any info would be most appreciated.

Well lets see white smoke is coolant, so check your resouvor tank and radiator to see if white smoke is coming from it. Also check your water pump belt to see if it is on. Happened to me, water pump belt not on cause white smoke rise from the engine. Black and blue smoke is oil so your head gasket might be a blown head gasket, so you might have to change that, since the piston is burning the oil and the smoke is leaking of the side of the head gasket. So if i am wrong about anything can somebody help him out. Hmmm... I'm not sure if the vavle cover gasket has a problem to do with it, especially with the blue and black smoke, but hey I dont know that much about cars, but you might have to change the vavle gasket later. Also check if the header is check. What is it an auto or a mans

Almost forgot also check your termostat, it might be acting up on you if your coolant is burning and check the pressure on it , too.
