The a/c controller works , but I lost the display . This is my second display that is doing this . Can I fix this myself , or look for another used controller on carparts.com ?(The second one I also bought used , and it lost the display in less then a year) .

91Q , 127000mi.

The LED display may be repaired by http://www.jerrytucker.net .

Buying used displays may be problematical. Be thankful you don't have an LCD display like Lexus. They are expensive and fail constantly.

Check with http://www.infinitipartsusa.com for just the display, or the cost of a new replacement unit.

Anything else electrical giving you prolblems? If so, might check alternator output or voltage regulator.

The replacement controllers are very costly new... $500-$700 if I remember correctly. The rebuild is definately the way to go at $100. One member fixed his himself by isloating the problem flexing the board and then resoldering everything - but you always run the risk of making it unrepairable.

I think Jerry has exchange units too, so you could pay a higher charge - have one shipped to you, then get a refund less $100 when he receives the old one... The swap is easy. Four screws and two plugs after you get the trim off.

Thanks , guys .I have owned my 91Q for 8 years , but never knew about this forum . Anyway , I will send the original controller which I still have somewhere . Now , since I am new here , some background .I bought the car off lease in 1995 with 46Kmi . Paid 21K incl. extended warrenty .They also gave me the rear sway bar from the 't' , and a set of 4 original wheels for my snow tires. Also it had a rebuilt transmission with the cooler . I know the owner of my dealership , so I always get the red carpet treatment , also beacaue I later refered 3 friends who also bought 3 Q's , 2 QX4's and1 I30 .The warranty paid for : chain guides + tenssioners , +plenum hoses +valve cover gasket job .at the same time while engine was out they replaced the plugs and charged me 1 hour laborThis was done at 70Kmi. It also paid for AC compressor , p.steering hoses , fuel pump , upper , lower suspension links in front ' brake servo booster .

My total out of pocket maintenance /repair expenses come to $ 6500 todate . This includes everything except engine oil , filter .It includes tires , transmission services , brakes , new rotors at 100Kmi. , 2 batteries , 2 AC charges , belts , alignment , 2 broken side mirrors - etc . This comes to $900 per year .

This comes to approx . $900 per year .

You are one lucky dog!

This is the first time EVER I have heard of a warranty company paying for the (admittedly crucial) preventative measure of chain guides!

Who are all your friends?Bring them here, the more the merrier!

palmerwmd- The warranty was from infiniti , not outside company . The Q was certified , so I could get the 7 year-100Kmi. extended warranty when I got it . O riginally I only complained about the valve cover gasket leaking on the exhaust manifold . The service manager was able to do everything else at the same time , since the motor had to come out anyway . (so he said ) . This was done in december when he was slow and looking for work .I don't know how the service manager got Infiniti to approve the whole job .

I've never heard of engine removal for valve covers so you have wonderful connections! An experienced service advisor can slip things through if he knows what to do... That's how I got three warranty transmissions.

I say it's noisy, he says "thought I felt it slip" It's amazing what a few gift certificates to a steak dinner will get you!

Had I known more about the guides while I had my extended warranty I probably could have gotten them replaced (heard chain slap this morning, etc.)
